Valentine’s Day Heart Paper Chain DIY

Valentine’s Day is coming! Here’s a quick and easy twist on the typical (boring) paper chain that the kids can do with materials you already have in the house. All you need is paper, scissors, and a stapler.

  1. Gather paper. I used 3 sheets of a magazine because it is what I had available, but construction paper would work great (probably even better, since the thickness would give the hearts a bit more stability).
  2. Cut the paper into 1-inch strips. It doesn’t have to be exact. Crooked lines are perfectly ok.
  3. Cut your strips in half. The finished paper strips should be about 1″ x 5″.
  4. Take two strips and staple them at one end.
  5. Separate the two strips and bend them around the staple… hold them together on the other side. You can staple here to make a heart shape, or if you are conserving staples you can hold it with one hand while moving on to step #6.
  6. Take two more strips of paper and make a “V” at the point of the heart and staple through all 4 sheets together.
Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you create a chain to your desired length. Have fun, and Happy Valentine’s Day!! xox
